STRATUS Incorporates New High-Definition Technology for Real Time Remote Viewing and Recording of Surgical Simulation Lab Procedures

Haivision Network Video announced today that Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, a Partners HealthCare facility and one of the top hospitals in the U.S., is using the Haivision Furnace™ IP video distribution system with Makito™ HD H.264 encoding technology for real time remote viewing and recording of their surgical simulation lab procedures. Clinicians can now view simulated surgical procedures and clinical workflows in high-definition (HD) from within conference rooms, at any desktop, and even at home. Surgical residents benefit directly by being able to watch other students remotely and by reviewing cases after they are recorded.

“The system has given our users the video access they need to help educate healthcare providers,” said Steve Poole, IT/AV manager and simulation specialist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. “We installed the Furnace over two years ago and have recently upgraded to HD by simply adding Haivision’s Makito HD encoder.”
